Lekha Chaisorn received PhD and Master degrees from the School of Computing, National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore and a Bachelor degree in Mathematics (Second class honors) from Prince of Songkhla University, Thailand.

Dr Chaisorn joined the Sensored-enhanced Social Media (SeSaMe) Centre at IDMI, NUS as a Senior Research Fellow in November 2012. She was later appointed as the Deputy Executive Director of the SeSaMe Centre (The Centre received $10 Million from MDA for the period of 5 years, since July 2012). Her responsibilities includes daily operational matters, window to MDA, business devleopment (engage potential partners, RCA, licensing, etc), visiting Professors and Scientists, supervise students, etc. Prior to this, she worked at the Institute for Infocomm Research (I2R), A*STAR since October 2005. At I2R, Dr Chaisorn was appointed as Assistant Director of Media Division in 2006, Group Leader of Signal Processing Dept. from 2007 – 2011 and a Deputy Programme Manager in 2011. She was very active in the International Benchmarking organized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology – NIST, Washington D.C.. She first took part in the benchmarking when she was doing her PhD in 2003. Supervised by Professor Chua Tat-Seng, she led an NUS team taking part in TRECVid 2003 evaluations on story segmentation and classification task. Out of more than 40 submissions, her system achieved 1st ranking under this task. In 2006, after joing I2R, her team joined force with NUS, took part in hIgh level feature extraction and video search task, the team received 3rd ranking under this task. And recently in 2010, she led an I2R team participating in Video Known-item Search (KIS) task, with a novel technique the team developed, her team earns top honors among the final 15 teams from 49 global participating teams. The system achieved 1st ranking in both automatic and interactive categories under this task.
